”Bomb Proof Toilets in Russia”

This is a grand idea, I am glad to see the Russians came up with it. But, it is true there is no place safe these days. I just think that the 30 minutes emergency release of the door is a bit long. Yet, they do have very cold winters, and it may be the warmest place to “do your business” that is Mother Natures business, and not monkey business if you know what I mean.

The toilets are being introduced following a series of terrorist attacks on Russia‘s capital. In January, a suicide bomber struck the city’s Domodedovo Airport, killing 37 people.

The state-of-the-art restrooms will feature basins made from ultra-strong fibrous concrete and fittings built from a mixture of steel and reinforced plastic. “If somebody leaves a bomb inside the lavatory and it explodes, then the toilet won’t be destroyed,” Ashikhmin, an official involved in the project from the Moscow State Department of Building Maintenance, is quoted as saying.

The drive to introduce bomb-proof toilets in the city follows a spate of deadly bomb attacks in recent years. In the most recent incident, a suicide bomber struck Moscow’s main airport killing 37 people. The high tech facilities, say officials, will also be kept above 16 degrees centigrade (about 60 degrees Fahrenheit), important in a city where winter temperatures often plunge below -30 degrees centigrade. An extra security feature of the restroom is that members of the public will be able to spend a maximum of 30 minutes inside before the doors automatically open and an alarm sounds.

Hopefully, the person will get out before the bomb explodes. Why not build the new toilet with bomb detection devices inside, which will alert anyone approaching the toilet, to stay away.
